Bio:

I am originally from the tiny village of Cedarville in Northern Illinois, but since graduating from high school, I’ve also lived in Minnesota, Nevada and Oregon.  Could it be that my love for farming has its roots in getting lost in corn fields and running through the beans? I feel lucky to have grown up in a rural area where the fields, woods and crick were my playground.

I have earned an associate’s in Science from Vermilion Community College in Ely, MN and was planning on working towards a bachelor’s degree in botany in Eugene, Oregon. It was in Eugene that I first truly realized the wonders of organic farming. I worked on an organic farm and also alongside a beekeeper in Eugene before returning to Illinois this past September.  Since my return home I have been working on a local organic farm and it has been the best job I have ever had! I love being outside, getting dirty and being surrounded by plants.  I look forward to learning every little thing about organic agriculture so that I can have a successful homestead in the future. I’m very excited about this opportunity and hope it will help me achieve a more self sufficient lifestyle.

After the Student Organic Farm I hope to use my passion for gardening, good food and nutrition to help others live healthier. I’m interested in applying organic agriculture and permacutlture concepts to the problems in our food system. Whenever I figure out where I want to settle down I plan to do just that; I want my land to not only be a farm, but also a space for music, art and  mysteries. Some of my other interests include, board sports, biking, dancing, camping, traveling, writing, swimming, sewing, thunderstorms and the loves of my life, books and music.
