Katherine
My name is Katherine Moore, and I am an Illinois native, born and raised in Rockford, and studied in northern and central Illinois before moving here to Lansing, MI. I received a B.A. degree in sociology before my true passion of plants took hold and I decided to pursue a graduate degree in horticulture. After getting an introductory A.A.S. degree in greenhouse management, I was accepted into the University of Illinois’s M.S. program in crop science, with an emphasis in sustainable vegetable production. I was also fortunate to gain a love of education by teaching vegetable gardening laboratory classes. I am very interested in companion planting and polyculture, as well as culinary and medicinal herb cultivation, and I would like to integrate these into urban environments in both agricultural and educational systems. I also am fascinated with the field of horticultural therapy, and I would be honored to one day teach people of all kinds the benefits and wonders of growing their own food.
