My name is Matthew Oliver Merritt. I started my journey of food as personal chef in Chicago and learned the art of making beautiful food for people to enjoy. Then I moved north to northern Michigan to work on a one acre farm and catering company. I regularly took produce to market and worked hard in the garden and kitchen. Then, I followed the warm weather south on a road trip to Southern California, which eventually ended me up in Maui, Hawaii. Once there, I was able to experience four seasons of growing food. I lived there for three years and loved every minute. It was in Maui that I met my wife. Soon after we met we moved back to the Midwest and helped to start a pastured poultry farm. Now wanting to educate myself with four season growing here at the SOF.
